Dominique Aymeric french version

Dominique Aymeric lives and works in Clermont-Ferrand, Auvergne, France

I am a poetess who lives surrounded with artists. So here I am, working for Visa-Art Gallery. Joy. Writing for people I love, writing for myself, writing for the beauty of the words, painting for the beauty of the gesture. It is always with a beating heart that I leave and come back from a studio visit. Each time I pay a visit to an artist, I witness the birth of something.

When Carlos da Costa and his brother Philippe, who both are photographers, asked me if I would accept to lead Visa-Art Gallery, I immediately said yes. I like this reflection of the writer Pascal Quignard: "Art increases the unpredictable but it also hates death. Artists are the murderers of the death."

This gallery presents painters, sculptors, engravers, photographers, designers who all are singular. My desire, my quest is to show genuine contemporary artists who have the courage to be themselves, often against the tide, far from the fads.

I live in order to live my desire, a long lasting desire which is cheerfulness mixed with anguish. To love, isn’t it to remain unappeased?

I finally would like to say that I agree wholeheartedly with the conclusion that Daniel Cordier (enlightened collector and generous donor) wrote in the preface of his last catalogue when his Parisian gallery closed down in 1964: "I don’t think that one can speak about painting other than with one’s heart, through confession, since each heart is unique. Specialist and layman are both equally helpless when they want to share with others their admiration for these objects, which pierce the sky of our sensibility, these mysterious objects that paintings are."
